The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact many communities across the United States. The common goal is to slow the spread of disease, and one-way medical offices have been helping is by canceling non-urgent elective procedures and using telemedicine instead of face-to-face encounters for routine medical visits. Now, when it comes to providing newborn and well-childcare, including childhood immunization, strategies must be different.
Here is some guidance from the CDC that many healthcare providers are implementing:
1) Separating visits by type. This means scheduling well visits in the morning and sick visits in the afternoon.
2) Separating patients with sick visits in different areas of the clinic or another location from patients with well-visits.
3) Collaborating with providers in the community to identify separate locations for holding well visits for children.
Because of certain circumstances may prevent some providers to provide well-child visits, including the provision of immunizations, for all patients in their practice. If a practice can provide only limited well-child visits, providers are encouraged to prioritize newborn care and vaccination of infants and young children (through 24 months of age) when possible. #childhoodimmunizations #children
